Special Issue "Deep Learning in Recommender Systems".

Deep learning is a fast-growing area that has an ever-increasing number of application domains. Recommendation systems are one such domain where deep learning offers promising results. Their use ranges from obtaining user feedback from reviews and comments on social media through sentiment analysis to the creation of models that capture the complex relationships between users and items, generally through attribute embedding. Among the many deep learning techniques are graph neural networks (GNN), which are lately gaining a significant amount of importance in recommendation systems for their ability to represent relationships. However, a major problem of GNN and, generally, all deep learning approaches, is the high sensitivity to data biases. Therefore, facing this drawback is a major concern for researchers in this area. This Special Issue provides an opportunity to address the challenges of today's deep learning-based recommender systems through the presentation of new research advances. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: Deep learning methods for recommender systems; GNN-based recommendation methods; Implicit user feedback from sentiment analysis; Bias and fairness in recommender systems based on deep learning; Multi-objective recommendations based on deep learning; Deep learning techniques for session-based recommendations; Deep learning approaches for context-aware recommender systems.

Special Issue "Affective Recommender Systems"

Emotional states can play an important role in the process of decision making. Researchers have demonstrated the impact of emotions on the effectiveness of recommender systems. Affective recommender systems (ARS) or emotion-aware recommender systems (EARS) are usually associated with multidisciplinary research, including artificial intelligence, human factors, mood or emotions, facial expressions, and physiological information with human–computer interaction. The development of affective recommender systems promotes various research topics, such as user interaction and interfaces, algorithm design and evaluations, computational efficiency, deep learning-based recommendation models, and recommendation explanations. This Special Issue on “Affective Recommender Systems” aims to promote new theoretical models, approaches, algorithms, and applications related to ARS.

Special Issue "Selected Papers from the 1st International Electronic Conference on Information"

This Special Issue of the open access journal Information is dedicated to the publication of full manuscripts of the work presented at the 1st International Electronic Conference on Information (IECI2021), to be held from December 1 to December 15, 2021. We encourage authors to submit their manuscripts, for which they will receive a 20% discount on the Article Processing Charge. The event is intended to be a forum for scientists and researchers in the area of information systems to present their work, exchange ideas and discuss advances and future directions in the field. The conference covers a wide range of topics related to information theory and applications. These have been distributed in three areas corresponding to the three sessions of the conference: Information Systems and Applications Information Processes and Artificial Intelligence Information Theory and Communications Technology Authors are requested to submit original papers that represent a relevant contribution and that arouse interest among the audience of the journal Information. These papers are subject to peer review and will be published as soon as accepted, to ensure that they are shared quickly.

La USAL organiza un taller de ‘Scrum’ y ‘Equipos Ágiles’ cuyos ganadores se incorporarán a la plantilla de una empresa tecnológica

El taller fue impartido por Javier Garzás, experto en gestión de proyectos y equipos, con una dilatada experiencia docente y profesional en el ámbito de las metodologías ágiles. Este evento ha permitido el aprendizaje de trabajo en equipo bajo el enfoque ágil de manera práctica y divertida mediante construcciones con LEGO® de Star Wars™. Cada uno de los cinco equipos compuestos por estudiantes del grado en Ingeniería Informática y másteres más una profesional de Viewnext, pusieron a prueba su ingenio y destreza.

El Parque Científico de la Universidad de Salamanca ha acogido esta mañana una jornada en la que Indra, empresa global de consultoría y tecnología, ha presentado su modelo de innovación abierta a los grupos de investigación, empresas y emprendedores vinculados a la USAL. En concreto, la consultora ha presentado su iniciativa “Indradventures” con la que pretende reforzar su relación con los ecosistemas tecnológicos de innovación a nivel global, apoyar y financiar proyectos

Innovaciones tecnológicas universitarias listas para saltar al mercado

GPS Adventure Maker. Rubén González González ha creado un editor de aventuras gráficas destinado a un entorno real que guía al usuario por GPS a través de un mapa interactivo. Resultados del Programa de Prototipos Orientados al Mercado-TCUE 4. Por cuarto curso consecutivo, la institución académica salmantina ha llevado a cabo esta iniciativa, que esta vez ha contado con proyectos de las facultades de Ciencias y Ciencias Químicas y de la Escuela Politécnica Superior de Zamora.

Un estudiante de la USAL crea un sistema para recomendar series de TV

El estudiante de la Universidad de Salamanca (USAL) Diego Sánchez Moreno ha desarrollado un sistema de recomendación de series de televisión que ofrece a cada usuario diferentes sugerencias personalizadas a través de internet. La metodología de recomendación utilizada ha sido desarrollada por el grupo de investigación en Minería de Datos de la Universidad de Salamanca. Esta iniciativa se ha incluido en el Programa de Prototipos orientados al mercado en el proyecto TCUE-3 del curso 2011/2012, que a su vez se ha enmarcado en el proyecto de Fomento de Actividades de Transferencia de Conocimiento de la Universidad de Salamanca (TCUE) que lleva a cabo la Fundación General de la institución académica y que cuenta con financiación de la Junta de Castilla y León.

"RecTour: Sistema Inteligente de Recomendación de actividades Turísticas" ha sido seleccionado en el programa de prototipos TCUE

El proyecto "RecTour: Sistema Inteligente de Recomendación de actividades Turísticas" presentado por la estudiante de Ingeniería Informática María Chica Sigler y dirigido por la profesora María N. Moreno García ha sido dotado con una beca en la segunda convocatoria de prototipos orientados al mercado dentro del programa de Transferencia de Conocimiento Universidad-Empresa TCUE.

VisUsal gana el Concurso Internacional de Visualización de Redes Sociales

El grupo de investigación VisUsal, que forma parte del Grupo de investigación Reconocido MiDa de la Universidad de Salamanca, ha obtendido el Primer Puesto en la categoría de Visualización de Redes Sociales, en el concurso internacional 14th Annual Graph Drawing Contest, que se ha celebrado recientemente en conjunción con el 15th International Symposium on Graph Drawing, celebrado en Sidney (Australia) el pasado Septiembre.
